Donderdag 24 maart om 19 uur opent de tentoonstelling Museum of Speech, gepresenteerd door Extra City's nieuwe artistiek directeur Mihnea Mircan. Wij willen u graag verwelkomen die avond. Museum of Speech is de eerste in een serie van drie presentaties die de mechanismen en onderhandelingen onderzoeken door dewelke ‘kunst’ en ‘het instituut’ de ruimten die ze samen bewonen delen of verdelen. Gevolgd door Museum of Display (20/5 – 3/7/2011) en eindigend met A Slowdown at the Museum (2/9 – 23/10/2011), doorloopt de serie het versnelde scenario van een fictief kunstinstituut, van zijn ontstaan tot zijn stagnatie en zijn ontbinding of wederopstanding. De tentoonstelling toont werken en interventies van John Latham, Mladen Stilinović, Nina Beier, Laure Prouvost, Jonathan Lahey Dronsfield, Ian Breakwell en Kris Kimpe.
| Thursday 24th of March at 19h sees the opening of the exhibition Museum of Speech, presented by Extra City's new artistic director Mihnea Mircan. We would like to welcome you that evening. Museum of Speech inaugurates a series of three presentations that investigate the mechanisms and negotiations through which art and the institution share or divide the spaces they cohabit. Continued with Museum of Display (20/5 – 3/7/2011) and concluding with A Slowdown at the Museum (2/9 – 23/10/2011), the series relies on the accelerated scenario of a fictional art institution, from its rise, to its congestion and ultimate disintegration or renewal. The exhibition includes works and interventions by John Latham, Mladen Stilinović, Nina Beier, Laure Prouvost, Jonathan Lahey Dronsfield, Ian Breakwell, and Kris Kimpe.

Extra Academy, de spontane alliantie tussen Extra City, de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten en Sint-Lucas Antwerpen, is een kleinschalig, structureel platform 'in progress' dat verschillende instrumenten en trajecten aanreikt die academische modellen en reflecties aanvullen of verstoren. De eerste Extra Academy toont een film van Yona Friedman, Overview + Subtitles, gevolgd door een gesprek tussen Nico Dockx en Maurizio Bortolotti. Hierna leidt Ergin Cavusoglu zijn film Backbench in, die tot stand kwam in opdracht van Manifesta 8.
| Extra Academy, the spontaneous alliance of Extra City, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint-Lucas Antwerpen, is a small-scale structural service ‘in progress', offering different tools and trajectories as a supplement to - or disturbance of - This first Extra Academy event screens a film by Yona Friedman, Overview + Subtitles, followed by a conversation between Nico Dockx and Maurizio Bortolotti. In addition, Ergin Cavusoglu introduces and screens his film Backbench, commissioned by Manifesta 8.

André Rottmann: Objects lessons. Falke Pisano's diagrams of aesthetic experience. Naar aanleiding van haar tentoonstelling (Conditions of Agency) nodigde Extra City schrijver en kunstcriticus André Rottmann uit een essay te schrijven over het werk van Falke Pisano. De Engelstalige tekst kan u vanaf heden terugvinden op onze website. De Nederlandstalige versie wordt begin april gepubliceerd.
